Northern Michigan University English Professor Kel Sassi received the Julia E. Berry Research Award from the National Council of Teachers of English for her proposal on the careers of NMU English alumni teaching in rural areas. Sassi plans to use the $1,500 award to further her research and support summer institutes for teachers through the Northern Shores Storywork Writing Project.
