National Writing Project

Special-Focus Networks Grants

The five special-focus networks (English Language Learners Network, Rural Sites Network, Teacher Inquiry Communities Network, Technology Liaisons Network, and Urban Sites Network) offer minigrant funds to writing project sites every fall in conjunction with the NWP site Continued Funding Application.

Each special-focus network offers minigrant opportunities to sites to strengthen work in areas it has identified as part of its mission. Funds are intended to provide modest support for projects that contribute to strengthening sites by building leadership capacity, developing or extending new and established inservice and continuity programs, and networking with other sites to support student learning and writing, among other things.

Each special-focus network sets forth guidelines and priorities for minigrant projects. Funding criteria and awards are determined through a peer-review process. Minigrant awards are announced in conjunction with NWP site awards in the spring of each year.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a special-focus network minigrant, a site must be a member of the network to which it is applying. To join the Technology Liaisons Network, designate a technology liaison who will be the primary link between your site and the network. Please be sure to read The Role of an NWP Technology Liaison before sending an email to tlnetwork@nwp.org naming that person.

Note: Site directors must enter the requested budget into the online budget system in order to complete the minigrant proposal.
